End all Wars – Stop the violence in Ukraine and Gaza

End All Wars vigil on Bainbridge Island

While we could not see a clue to the end of the war in Ukraine, the conflict in the Gaza Strip began in early October. Dark clouds loom over the world. As humanity faces the urgent global problem of climate change, we must stop further wars and killings.

The United States has the largest Jewish population in the world, but this time there is strong support for both Palestinians and Jews to move forward on the path to peace. We don’t know what each of us can do, but we can pray for an end to the illegal and inhumane occupation and all wars, and to eliminate weapons.

In this spirit, three days of interfaith prayer and action were offered by the Bainbridge Nipponzan Myohoji. Anyone who agreed with the main spirit wass welcome to or stand in unity for 15 minutes, an hour, or even 6 hours. While praying for peace in Los Angeles, Nipponzan monks joined a larger demonstration, all supporting an end to the war in the middle east.

As a citizen of the earth and a Buddhist from Asia, I would like to share the ancient wisdom of human beings and the message of the Buddha: “Do not take the life of others.” Let’s go out of the home and pray together. -Senji Kanaeda Shonin

Vigils were also held in Los Angeles on Dec. 2-3 at City Hall and Chiune Sugihara Statue at Little Tokyo, Downtown LA; and Port Townsend on Dec. 6 at Pope Marina Park.
